For our tech class, we were asked to make a presentation about a specific topic under the broader category that we chose to try to spread awareness about. The topic I chose was the psychological effect of family separation on children.
I created this presentation because we were supposed to for tech class. However, I chose this topic because I think it is important for people to understand why children shouldn’t be separated from their parents, and why parents shouldn’t be deported leaving their children behind. The effects it can have on a child’s health could be detrimental and can affect the type of person they grow up to be in the future. Children already have to go through the traumatic situation of leaving behind everything that they know and taking away the only thing that remains that may be familiar to them is not only terrifying for the kid, its hard on the parent too, not knowing what might happen to their child or when they may seem them again. I am hoping that this video will be viewed by more people, so that more people can be educated on the effects family separation can have on children. Hopefully, if the word does get out to more people, we will then have more people try to help stop family separation and deportation from occurring. The separation of children from their parents, whether its at the border or once they get into the country, should be stopped regardless. By getting the word out we will have more people supporting our cause and this will create a bigger impact than just having a few people trying to get the attention of the NYC lawmakers who can help keep NYC a Sanctuary City. This will allow for immigrants to freely come here and be taken in without the fear of possibly being deported or losing a family member. Please make sure to go check out the video!
